And they can get that data directly from the telecos without access to your phone. I highly doubt this database exists for that purpose when there are much more seamless/invisible ways to get the information. (Waits patiently for someone to down vote this reply since I mentioned the government getting information from the telcos...ignoring the fact I never took a position on it personally. So much for staying informed.)

No... they use a third party company to hack the phone, and have been for the past year. It's funny this just not became newsworthy as the cops have been on this since the 3GS and have convicted people with the location data. Sorry about your alibis.

I wonder why Apple didn't include an IR port & remote with the Mac Pro? It also doesn't ship with Front Row.
It's especially odd considering Apple was touting Front Row as part of Leopard.

There's nearly 50 android phones released in the US alone. And there's currently 4 iPhone models (the only phones that run iOS atm and will always be). Do the math. Since there is such a broad market for android phones, there is also a larger price scale. Of course android will overtake iOS sales. :rolleyes:
I like my iOS devices but kudos to android to being more open to app development. I think my next phone will be running android anyway to switch it up a bit.

How successful are MVNOs? Last I heard ESPN and Disney mobile are rumored to be shutting down due to low subscriber numbers.

It'd be cool for Apple to start building a small, fast SSD "drive" (memory chips) into every Mac, that would be dedicated to the core System, and only the System. Small enough to be inexpensive, large enough to easily accommodate current and future System files, fast enough to be faster than any current hard drive. Make the drive say 32-64 GB, with two partitions. One partition holds the installed System, the other partition is just scratch space for downloaded and uninstalled software, including the System itself. Possibly this partition contains some minimal boot system in order to re-download and install the package from the app store in case the installation gets botched.
I would love this. I remember the old Commodore 64 days when the OS was on ROM chips and it was an instant boot. Nowadays that wouldn't be very practical with OS updates, but something similar would be great.
Imagine being able to do a complete system restore and have a barebones OS be unaffected.

What uncanny timing-- a couple of days after Intel comes out with their 3D chip thing, sending ARM's share price tumbling to artificially affordable prices, this rumour comes out which, if widely accepted, would boost ARM's share price greatly. Someone could potentially make a lot of money out of this. Especially as Semiaccurate's sources are anonymous, I reckon this rumour should be treated with great scepticism.
Demerjian probably just made it up himself to get hits or he now hates Intel too, or maybe X86, who knows.

Suing for patent infringement is one thing, and Apple certainly holds some patents regarding the features of the iPhone and iPad. However, you cannot sue for look & feel. Apple should know this better than anyone after losing its protracted lawsuit in the 80s against Microsoft, which was based on Windows taking GUI elements of the Mac OS.

Phone calls are routed exclusively through the Car Kit's speakers, whether or not music etc. is routed through the output jack to speakers. A lot of smartphones are like the iPhone in that they won't run phone calls through the base/charger port, but will run the "computer" output, i.e., music and other programs. Has to do with the separate computer/phone circuits, I suppose.
Thanks for that info. I was wondering if I plug an fm transmitter into the car kit and play my music through my car speakers, will incoming phone calls also be sent through the car speakers or the Tomtom speaker? I prefer the phone calls just come through the car kit's speaker alone.

Are you talking about MP3 players in general, or specifically the iPod with scroll wheel, white design etc? Or are you just talking about Jonny Ive? I am intrigued by this fact that you are aware of but most other people aren't.
I would also argue that Apple aren't necessarily innovators, but what they do better than anyone else is spot the Next Big Thing and then manage to make it look so good and work so well that it becomes incredibly popular. This was the case with the MP3 player, the smartphone, touchscreens, tablets... and those are just the primary examples.

Here's my problem with this distribution method for an OS:
I have 4 Macs in my house. Previously, I'd buy a Family License DVD and go from machine to machine installing it.
If I have to DL it from the App Store, I've got to download it 4 times! I don't care about paying for multiple licenses... I do care about blowing out my internet bandwidth downloading the same multi-gigabyte file 4 times. :mad:
There had better be a physical-media option!
Copy it to a USB drive or disc. Why would you keep downloading it?

I think the iPhone 4 is still the easiest to use and best phone. My friend has an evo and I think it is too big and his is always crashing. Even if they release an iPhone 5 I might just keep the 4 until the 4g/lte/wimax whatever it is comes out unless mine is lost/stolen/broken.
I really can't think of anything they can do to it other than that; a faster processor or memory doesn't matter to me because I don't really play many games, better camera doesn't matter because I don't take many pics, 3D screen on small display seems like a gimmick, when I have a 3dtv. Maybe there will be something surprising but if my phone was lost/stolen/broken today I would go get an iPhone 4 again.

but if nobody spends to buy that small business's product, how will it survive? Yes you need some saving, but spending is equally important. What we should have done was saved while the economy was going good and we could afford to have that money sitting on the sides and now that the economy is bad we should be spending to restart it. Economists are a bit like creation scientists. They both approach the world seeking to validate their own beliefs. Both can continue to believe in their own beliefs because they never have to experiment. The economist doesn't understand how to make money and the creation scientist doesn't use the scientific method. Investors/traders and real scientists, on the other hand, are merely trying to understand the workings of something they can't change.
